Like others, I have used solvents like Simple Green and sprayed some water
around to clean it off to remove the residuals. I am intrigued by the
dishwasher solution. Maybe one to be tested on a junker. In this method
does one use regular, somewhat acidic dishwasher detergent, something else,
or nothing?
After the above Simple Green process I have invested in a couple of bottles
of the 90% + purity alcohol at the large discount drug store and rinsed out
the areas where water is of a concern.
I came to this method out of desperation. My daughter, located about a
thousand miles away at school, dumped a large mug of coffee into her rather
expensive notebook computer which held the only current copy of her thesis.
The dumpage had mostly dried and the computer didn't work. My gut reaction
was turned to most of the concerns seen expressed here. I had her dump
three good sized bottles of alcohol into the computer in the same area as
the coffee went in, in what probably amounted to 5 to 6 ounces at a time,
and swish it back and forth over the sink and dump it out. After getting
through the three bottles. I had her let it sit and dry for a day.
The unit performed like new the next day. I have since sponsored this same
action three other times with computers, all successfully. It has served me
well with my radio collection also.
