[Boatanchors] hp 8601a?

Hello all, 

In my infinite wisdom (read: ignorance) I purchased an HP 8601A GENERATOR/SWEEPER on i-pay.  Seller is a consigner.  Got the item and it only seems to put out one frequency no matter what I change the freq adjustment to be. Also does not seem to do any sweeping at all. Actually, I can make it modulate in AM. Other than that, nothing.

Anyone out there in boatanchor land have one of these? I was wondering if perhaps, it might be in some kind of calibrate mode or something and perhaps its not completely fried.  Anyone? I have a money back guarantee with it (incl return shipping) so for me its a no-risk situation, but I would rather getting it working if its something simple.
