[Boatanchors] TV-RFI?

Hi,
While this may not be "entirely" boatanchor related, there is a lot of
knowledge out there and perhaps somebody knows the answer (I don't know of a
specific "RFI" related list). (And boatanchors here would see the same QRM as
my other receivers do)
I've noticed that I sometimes have a nice steady S9+ "white-noise" floor on my
receivers, VERY noticeable, especially on 40 Meters. This isn't discrete
carriers like you often hear from a computer monitor or TV set, just broadband
hash.
FINALLY, today I traced it to the TV set in the living room. This is a 17"
Philips flatscreen set with integral DVD player. Turning the TV off dropped
the noise floor at 7240KC from S9+10 to S5!
DISCONNECTING the TV antenna from the TV set ALSO dropped/eliminated most of
the noise. This TV is on a "bowtie" antenna at the OPPOSITE end of the 65
foot mobile home from the G5RV antenna I use for 40M. The 300 Ohm Twinlead to
the TV set is perhaps 45-50 feet long (approaching a half wavelength) from the
TV set to the antenna, probably making a GREAT antenna for that band!
One answer of course is to keep the TV set turned off, but I don't think the
XYL would go for that ;-) (I myself watch very little TV).
My question is this. Radioshack sells a 54-900MC High Pass filter to
eliminate HF QRM transmitters affecting TV sets. Before I spend the 5 bux or
so, has anyone used one of these to prevent QRM FROM TV sets affecting
receivers, putting it in the TV lead-in line?
