No, you didn't scare me off just yet..... Many thanks to all who offered such really good advice on a scope recommendation for boatanchor repair. Based on the popular advice, it looks like I'll go with a more "modern" dual-trace, triggered sweep, 100mHz unit so I don't have to wonder if the scope is operating correctly when troubleshooting a boatanchor. At least that's my current thinking. Still might look for a "vintage" unit to add to my bench just for fun....... Thanks again & 73, Bill, ab0zz

And that's fine, but Bill said he WANTED a "vintage" scope. That's why
I was trying to plot a course toward something useful but sufficiently
BA to keep him happy.

(And it seems we've scared him off.) ;<)

Subject: Extra Weights for Round Shaft Bugs

In order to get a decent price break on having replacement weights made
for several of my older bugs, I still have a few left over and am offering
them for sale to anyone interested. These are precision machined stainless
steel weights. They are round (5/8 inch in diameter and 3/4 inch in
length)
and weigh slightly over one ounce, with the stainless cap screw which is
included. They fit nicely on the round shaft Speed-X and Vibroplex bugs.
They do not fit the Telegraph Apparatus or McElroy round shaft bugs.

I am asking $9.00 each postpaid in the USA or two for $15.00 also
postpaid
 in the USA.

If you are interested, drop me an email (direct) to w4foa at comcast.net

Bill,
On the scope. Well being in the business I like using my dual trace
triggered 100Mhz unit, but, keeping it "vintage" is also fun.

A lot of glow radios were repaired long before transistors were invented
using a good "simple" scope. you can't go wrong with and Eico 460 and
Hi-Z and de-mode probe. It will provide more than enough info to work
on about all tube radios out there. Be sure the CRT is good and the
HV transformer isn't fried though. P.S. it is a tube type unit.

I'd appreciate any recommendation on make & model and bandwidth of your "favorites". A basic, single-trace "vintage" scope is what I have in mind. Probe recommendations also appreciated.....Thanks, Bill

Local fellow selling off an estate. Has a real nice SP-400 with power supply, an NC-300, a Drake R-8, a couple of Central Electonics SSB slicers that look like new along with a 20A that looks the same. There are also 3 Collins receivers, a 75A-2, 75A-3 and 75A-4 and a 75S-1.

Anyone interested, i can put you in touch with him and you deal that way not thru me. just doing this as a favor to help him along

I have a beautifully restored DX-100B cabinet.
It was sanded down to the metal then primed and
finally coated with a nice charcoal green paint.
This cabinet will also fit the R-390, Receivers.
Measures 19"1/2 Wide X 10"7/8 High and 15" Deep.
I think the weight is about 29Lbs. but will need
to find my scale to verify that.

What's the RF power handling capability of rg 58 or rf 59?
I have both running to my two antennas, but I am getting to put a
30L-1 online and am wondering if I need to change coax as well.

It depends on how high the frequency. But, the output
of a 30L-1 won't overload either one. However, just
for principle I would replace the coax with at least
RG213/U.
