Ted Hunter lived in the Iowa City area, and was very active, well known, and
well liked among the local ham community. Back in 1962, I had just passed my
Novice license, and at a local Field Day event, Ted drove up in his station
wagon, which featured a 1KW HF amp, and I believe he had a generator in the car
to provide enough power to run it. I always remember, at that FD, how nice
he was to a fledgling novice, he let me talk on his radio, and let me get a
few 5 wpm contacts on CW. I was thrilled. Later, when I was about 16, when he
learned how much I liked CW, he gave me one of his personal telegraph keys, a
bug, which I still have.
A great individual, a great ham. I'll always remember Ted Hunter.
