Hi Everyone,

here are the answers to 2 questions I received concerning my posting on the
NC 81X:

<< does it say what wattage output for the speaker? >> Nothing is stated
about the power handling capabilities of the speaker. The manual states only that
it was a supplied 8" PM speaker. The cabinet, if you can believe that, was
optional for $ 8.00. The model number was DSC-8G. Being that the output tube is
a 25L6, I believe that anything more than 4 to 5 watts would be overdoing it a
bit.

<< Wow! Headset impedance of 20 k Ohm? The highest I've ever heard of is 2 k
Ohm. >> From the instruction manual: "The impedance of the headphones should
be approximately 20,000 ohms, this being the usual impedance of phones having
a total DC resistance of between 2000 and 3000 ohms."

Headesets in the 1937 era, when this receiver was manufactured, were not what
we see today. They usually consisted of one or two coils of wire wound
around a central pole piece. The diaphragm consisted of a thin tin disc. It was
definately not hi-fi!
