<< Might anyone tell me how to hook up a speaker for an NC-81X? >>

>From the instruction manual: " The speaker furnished with the receiver is of 
the permanent magnet dynamic type having a suitable coupling transformer to 
match the load impedance of the tube --- 1500 ohms." The manual further states: 
" the receive should not be operated unless the speaker terminals are 
connected. The output tube cannot be removed from its socket since the heaters are 
connected in series."

Recommended headset impedance is 20,000 ohms.
