[Boatanchors] S-38B dial lamp color

I just picked up an old S-38B receiver to restore and I noticed the dial 
bulb has been painted orange (not tinted, actually painted.)

I thought it should be clear, but since I don't have any experience with 
this rig, I wondered if anyone knows if that is the way it is supposed to 
be, or did they come factory built with a clear bulb?
