Phil,

Since you've been reporting on your progress with this radio, I know you're
being methodical and thoughtful in what you're doing. So don't take this the
wrong way. But have you tried the crystal in an oscillator circuit?  Stick it
in the crystal socket of your signal generator, grid dipper, whatever? The
crystal could be bad for sure, but that's something I would try. Sorry, can't
help with a replacement crystal, though ;-)
