Once upon a midnight dreary, Orrin Bentz" <minmar at 2z.net> pondered, weak and weary:

Hi Orrin,

You may get as many answers to that question as there are members of
this list or number of receivers manufactured, whichever is lower!

My vote would be for the Drake 2B, my novice receiver from the early
1970s which I still have.

Small, still reasonably priced, incredibly enough still supported by
Drake to some extent, fantastic audio with a 500 cycle filter for CW
which makes the rest of the world go away. Never needed a tube, never
needed a repair. Can buy or build a plug in 100 KC calibrator.
Accessory speaker/Q multiplier available which I've never used.

Great audio, stable, plenty sensitive.

Of all the receivers I've owned in my time, the 2B was the best for
CW and great for sideband. The only thing I've used which has
equalled its performance and rich sound is my Elecraft K2.
