[Boatanchors] Globe Chief 90 Paint

The "proper" VFO for the Globe Chief 90 (and the 90A)
is the WRL 755 (or the later model 755A). However,
they are relatively scarce. Not "rare", but tend to
be hard to find and sometimes a "bit" pricey.

However, the WRL VFO is usually more stable than the
Heath VF-1 or HG-10 series and has a built in 120 VAC
power supply.

The finish on my original Globe Chief 90A and on the
one that I got a few years back to re-create my
original Novice station is a gray hammertone.

The main difference between the 90 and the 90A is that
the 90A has a "shadow" type of cabinet. That is, the
top of the cabinet overhangs the panel. The 90 has
the top even with the panel.

Some of the earlier 90A have the metal cased meters
like the 90 whereas later versions have a plastic
cased meter. Also, the earlier 90A have the "two
tone" front panels like the 90 and the later 90A also
have a green pattern towards the top of the panel
(around the meter).

Otherwise, the circuitry is pretty much the same.
Also, if you use a VFO you do have to go in and make a
slight modification to the oscillator circuit. That
change is outlined in the manual which is available
from BAMA

The Globe Chief Deluxe had a blue cabinet but that rig
only covers 80 - 10 meters instead of 160 - 10 meters
like the Globe Chief 90 and 90A. Also, the cabinet is
about half the height of that of the 90 and 90A

I'd be interested in knowing the original color and
texture of paint used on the cabinet of the WRL Globe
Chief 90 I bought at the Indy hamfest Saturday. What I
see appears to be a light or medium blue hammertone
finish.

Additionally...I'd sure like to find a suitable VFO.
Anybody got one they'd part with? An HG10 or 10B,
perhaps?
