[Boatanchors] HQ-180 help???

Hi guys,
Well, I suppose you could say it might help keep dust off, but think of
the very many (95+%?) of rcvrs that don't have the covers, the
performance doesn't seem to suffer from that cause. (no empirical evidence
here) I've never noticed a buildup of dust between the plates. The field
is indeed tiny, think of the small voltages, not like a plate tank in a
transmitter, so not much, if any, electrostatic forces. Keeping a cover
over the radio when you're not using it does a lot more toward keeping
dust out.
Hammarlund did recommend taking the covers out of the HQ-170/180
series, and they quit supplying them. I think I've got their addendum
sheet in one of my manuals, if anyone really wants to see it I'll dig it
out & scan it. Don't know if it was retroactive to the HQ-140's.
So do you want to make it original but overrule the manufacturer's
later recommendation? Which is the "right" thing to do? It's your radio,
do what you want, that's the right thing for you.

how about for keeping dust off? My HQ140X is missing this cover and I am
looking for it. I wonder if the tiny field between the plates could cause
a build up of dust attraction?

Any one have any empirical evidence about sheilding here?

unable to tell how the front inboard corner clears the gear between the
cap. and HF coils t-26 and t-24. Is the cover cuttout?? My manual is not
clear. A picture taken by a kind soul would surly help. Thanks, Gary
