[Boatanchors] B&W 5100 Question

Hey Gang --

I've acquired a 51SB sideband unit to go with my 5100 transmitter  (to keep
my 5100-B/51SB-B company...).

The 5100 was stored on a bottom shelf, and when I pulled it out tonight,  I
realized that I don't have the 5100 variant with the "SSB" switch under the
hood.   That'll teach me to trust my memory......

Anyway,  I've heard that the "SSB" swtich was just a factory mod,  and that
the 51SB will work with any 5100, but one needs to add the "SSB" switch and
associated circuitry.

Can anyone give me some info on this issue?   BAMA and another manual site
(victrola something...) both have 51SB manuals,  but unfortunately they are
really 51SB-B manual listed as 51SB.
