[Boatanchors] Oily Wires?

When I restored my BC-794-B, which for the uninitiated, is basically the same
as the BC-1004, I encountered the the same situation as you describe, with
what sounds like not as serious of a bathtub leakage. However the combination of
leakage, fungus proofing and dust, gave everything sort of a burnt appearance
even though it wasn't.

I cleaned the under chassis as best I could and then replaced all paper and
mica caps and all composition resistors. I left the wiring harness alone. I did
the same thing while I had the RF deck out, with the exception of a couple of
mica padders that I couldn't reach without major disassembly of the rf deck.
I was extra careful in the hope that I won't have to R&R the RF deck again.

With the fine advise of many on this list, I repainted and relettered the
panel. I purchased a repro. name plate from Hank Arney.

All in all, I ended up with a fine receiver and a keeper for me. As I write
this, I'm listening to my morning music program on Radio Australia, with the
fine sound quality of that push pull audio.

Phil, you mentioned Rock Sea Enterprises. I've heard of them before, but
never been able to down load their stock list from their website. I don't think
the problem with the bandspread dial is serious enough at this time because I
would have to replace both dials to get the color to match.
