[Boatanchors] What a Bandswitch!

Hi,
This morning I went ahead and pulled all the covers from the bandswitch
and tuning capacitors of the BC-1004 to enable cleaning of the
bandswitch.
Man! What a bandswitch this critter has! The shaft has 25 Cams, each a
little larger than a quarter, 5 cams to a compartment. Each cam is in
the center of a rectangular piece of Bakelite that slides up and down in
slots as the shaft is turned. On the bottom of each piece of Bakelite
is a metal contact strip, possibly silver plated.
Below each group of 5 cams is another piece of Bakelite containing small
Contact fingers that mate with the contacts of the rectangular cam
driven piece of Bakelite plate. The "fingers" on these plates connect to
the tuned circuits below the assembly.
The entire unit is roughly 13 inches long, 2.5 inches wide and 3 inches
high.
Altogether it appears that if you ever disassembled this mess to repair
a broken contact or replace a cam driven Bakelite plate, it would be a
nightmare to reassemble it properly. I suspect that Hammarlund must
have had some sort of Jig or "trick" to assembling it.
