Someone on the list asked me which brand I thought was the best; the Goot
TP-100 or the Hakko 808 and with apologies I inadvertently lost track of who
asked. I have them both along with a Weller SCD-100 (which I do not recommend) and
have had a chance to compare them all. The Goot and Hakko are both very good
desoldering guns and work equally as well but since the Hakko 808 is about
half the cost of the Goot TP-100 I would give the nod to the 808. The
construction quality is equal and the design is relatively the same and although the
Hakko is slightly larger I thought it had a stronger vacuum pump which seemed to
work a little better. It pulls the solder out so quickly that it leaves loose
wires on lugs. Both guns are well balanced and easy to handle.

regards, Greg
