Resistors...
There was an interesting article in either "Antique Radio Classified"
"QST" or "Nuts and Volts" about the drifting of values of carbon
composition resistors, chemistry of them and why. Will look it up and
get reference if anyone wants it. Basically during the manufacturing
process they had some contaminates, water, etc in them and age drys it
out and they go up in value, sometimes many times their marked/manufact
ured value.
Even new however can be wrong. We got in 100 units of 1/4 watters that
were supposed to be 100 ohm and were actually 1000 ohm. Were mismarked
at factory. As many have said "check 'em" !
