[Boatanchors] Boatanchors list

I started to respond before but decided to shut up. However I decided to add
another
perspective. This list is not the "Original" boatanchors list. I donated to
the other list
before it was mandated and then after the mandate. Always more than
requested. My
leaving the list had nothing to do with "bucking up". There are others who
did the same
I know of personally. So to say others left that list for monetary reasons
is correct but
only to a point. Others left that list for other reasons as well. This issue
to me seems
purely monetary.

I have no solutions other than what has already been suggested. But to ask
someone to
keep a process running with unknown resources to support it is pretty bad in
my mind.
Mr. Waller needs to know that funding is available to not only keep the
system alive but
to repair, expand and upgrade when needed.

Another thought is that some folks cannot afford to lay out cash at will and
must
really pick and choose where their dollars go. With that thought in mind in
a decision based
on supporting the system I can agree. As usual I will probably contribute
beyond what is
asked because I can. Others will as well. However Mr. Waller cannot rely on
generosity
and needs something more firm. I believe a fixed fee is appropriate. Also,
some may be
forced to leave the list which is unfortunate. Really unfortunate. I have no
answer or
suggestion to prevent that. Those who cannot contribute because it is
against their
"principles" are another story. 73

John,

While it's true that there was an outcry on Boatanchors at theporch.com when
the
annual fee began, most of it was from those who are in the 99.4% over here.
Some screamed and left. Some grumbled but stayed. And some realized that
no
one owed them a Free Lunch, paid and stayed. I don't know the current
member
count but the original Boatanchors list is still quite active. And the
noise
level is comfortably low.
