NOTE: PICKUP Only.
Hi Y'all,
For a number of reasons (lack of funds being one, Christmas being another
8^) I've decided NOT to proceed with the overhaul/restoration of the
Hallicrafters HT-37 transmitter I recently received as payment for some
radio work. Instead I'll sell it for what I feel is a reasonable price.
FIRST, DUE TO IT'S WEIGHT AND BULK THIS ITEM 'HAS' TO BE PICKED UP IN
CENTRAL CALIFORNIA (MERCED). I WILL NOT SHIP IT, NO EXCEPTIONS!
CONDITION AND DESCRIPTION: I have NO photographic equipment to speak of,
other than a Kodak 110 camera, but here is the best description I can
provide.
1. Hallicrafters HT-37 transmitter, probably a solid 8 or 8.5 cosmetically
as there are a few minor scrapes/rubs on the top edges and a couple small
blems in the black part of the front panel. Perhaps not collectors quality,
but still looks very nice. NO APPARENT MODS WHATSOEVER. Complete, no missing
parts.
2. Chassis is nice and clean, NO rust other than the screw holding one
rubber foot. All original feet, NICE original Knobs, NEW 3 wire power cord
(old one was rotted and I wouldn't accept it's liability). I've had the
bottom off, the underside of the chassis looks as nice as the top side.
3. Nearly all tubes are original Hallicrafters, driver has been replaced,
6146 tubes may or may not be original as they are RCA branded and I
understand Halli didn't brand their 6146's. All tubes tested good on a TV-7,
though two 12AT7's in the modulator should probably be replaced for balance
and marginal reasons. This set may have had fairly low operating hours.
4. TRANSFORMER: It is my understanding that power transformers are the "Weak
Link" in these sets. I "baked" this one under a light bulb for a number of
days to make sure there was no moisture in it. It tests good in circuit, BUT
IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE BUYER REPLACE ALL ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS, REPLACE
THE TUBES WITH SILICON RECTIFIERS AND DISCONNECT THE 5 VOLT FILAMENT LEADS
FROM THE RECTIFIER TUBES as the usual failure mode is the high voltage
winding shorts to the 5 Volt Winding and then to ground. That is all at the
buyers discretion.
5. Because of number 4 above I HAVE NOT applied power to the unit and it is
therefore sold as-is. However, my "feelings" from years of electronics
experience is that the set will be fine if re-capped and checked out
electrically.
WHAT COME WITH IT:
1. ORIGINAL Hallicrafters Manual, complete but has some tears on the pages,
repaired with clear tape.
2. A nice Shure 444 high impedance desk mic with no connector. Either you
may obtain the proper mating connector for the HT-37, OR modify the HT-37
for PTT and replace the connector on the HT-37 with a different connector.
It's your call.
PRICE FOR ALL: $140 or Best Reasonable Offer, PICKED UP in Merced
California.
