What follows is quoted from Perry Green of the ARRL:

Duane, Thanks for inquiring of the ARRL assistance in your call sign search.
However, there may be some assumptions that you have that are not true. First,
there is no callbook database maintained anymore. I believe the last database
using Callbook data was in 1997. The ARRL does not, nor ever did, have any
control or maintenance with the Callbook firm. The ARRL's callsign look-up (as
well as QRZ.com and other call sign servers) glean their information from the
FCC's database. www.qrz.com <http://www.qrz.com> does maintain a database from
1993. See: http://www.qrz.com/search1993.html

The FCC has N/C records from 1969 to date.

So all of this business about using the ARRL database of call books to look up
the call sign I wanted for 1967, not available for either the ARRL or the FCC.

There are services who will look them up for a fee. There is one I have learned
of on-line that accepts donations. But it is not available through the ARRL
gentlemen, so let's put that myth to rest.
