[Boatanchors] HQ-170A with clock

Okay, good enough Bob. The only reason I made my comment was because I've
always found that doing an alignment is a very good way to ensure that each
and every adjustable/tunable stage is working!

Good luck with the R-390A, too. I have one here as well as an R-390.

The latter was in a house that burned to the ground many years ago. When I
got it, the R-390 was coated inside and out in a thick black film, and there
was a large mouse skeleton inside. However, total disassembly revealed that
everything was there. The set's MFP coating protected it, and the Q-dope
inside the coils protected them! The tubes were all good too. I ultimately
re-assembled all the cleaned parts, replaced one open resistor, and aligned
it. The ol' R-390 plays like a champ. You can see both receivers in a shack
photo on my Web site.

Alex,

I'm not afraid of doing an alignment at all.

I prefer to check it out first, and determine the need before diving in.

It certainly isn't my primary receiver. It is one of those that I
use infrequently.

By the time I can get to it, I MAY just go ahead and rock and roll.
It will depend on mood, time, and interest.

The first project to finish is the restoration of a '51 Collins
R-390A. My next step in that one is the RF Deck and gear train.
