Phil, you're right, it's kilohms.  I don't remember when it was exactly 
(now don't anybody start - I wouldn't 'remember' anyway!) but the change 
in terminology took place pre-1950 or even earlier.  I think it was a 
gradual thing, with various manufacturers changing at their convenience. 
  This is something to keep in mind when working on equipment that old. 
  It can trap you when the value in question sounds halfway reasonable 
in megohms.  Been there.
