If auction ads were all that was wrong with the newsgroups, they'd actual=
ly
be in a lot better shape! <g> Yes, though, I agree we don't want to have =
a
lot of folks hawking their auctions via the List. Then again, Greenkeys
List doesn't seem to be overrun by auction ads.......
> If you have something you want to sell for profit and wish to list it
here for all your friends to see, why not just offer it to them to start
with? <
That was one of the points someone was trying to present. If, as Duane
seems to have offered, the major reason for opposing auction site links i=
s
that QTH.NET does not profit from them but the auction site does, then a
private sale here is really no different because QTH.NET still does not
profit while someone else does. =
=
And the other point, which seems to have been overlooked, is that there i=
s
a difference, or perhaps ought to be a difference, between posting a link=
to hawk an auction and posting a link because we'd probably like to see
what we are talking about. Of course, that presumes we are allowed to tal=
k
about curiosities, mystery boxes, and so on if it requires mentioning the=
y
appeared at an auction site. I think we will miss out on some neat subjec=
ts
if we aren't.
All that said, in the end the List is the List with Rules, warts, and all=
.
If it wants to change, it will, if not, c'est la vie. I just like to see
all sides of an issue on the table when the issue is up for discussion.
I guess its time to let this one fall off the table again.
Cheers,
Wayne
