Tom -
The only SX that I've seen go for anywhere near that price was the -88
purchased by WB6ACU about that long ago. He was also the one to set the
'high water mark' on the '115 initially, purchasing one for $4250. I do
recall seeing one bring around $6K, maybe 2 years back. I've also seen
several go for under $1K in the last year, and they didn't look a lot
different than this one. It's certainly fun to watch, but I don't base
much real 'value' on a few high bids. Over time a far different picture
emerges. But the wording of the title should be a big clue as to what
type of seller you're dealing with. Somehow I think if I had to view my
gear as 'investments', old radio wouldn't be much fun.
'If I don't sell this radio I won't mind except for the fact that since
I'm offering it at a high opening bid I'd obviously rather have money
than radio. I'm just so attached to it that it won't be easy to see her
go, so bid HIGH to ease my pain!'
Kinda makes you wonder how much he'd take for the dog, wife, kids.
Lessee...mebbe thar's a few rare old family dishes in the cupboard from
grandma...
I purchased mine from the original owner maybe 4 ago after a tip from
Dennis, former HCA net control. Several others expressed an interest
after me, so the owner emailed us all and said "I do not want to have a
bidding war going on, so the first person to receive this email and
respond who agrees to buy it for $500 is the new owner". My lucky day, I
just happened to be online when the email arrived. $540 shipped, most I
ever paid for a radio until the BC transmitter came along. *twitch*
SX-115 is a nice receiver, very stable and very nice sounding. Appealing
layout too, and well worth a few dollars. IF you don't mind not having
160 coverage. That's right, no 160, no general coverage. 10-80, ham
bands only. Makes the 51S-1 look like a bit of a better deal, eh?
