I would like to thank W9GXJ, Stan, for his excellent article, with diagrams, on
how to modify the SR-2000 to conserve the life of the finals. It basically
involves some simple modifications to the power supply (easily removed in about
fifteen minutes with no damage) that lets the low power be 100 watts and the
high power be 200 watts. The final runs cool, literally, and this should
preserve its overall life expectancy considerably. They are not getting cheaper
to buy or easier to find! Stan has used this mod for fifteen years with no ill
effects.

Doug Moore is currently completing an outstanding tutorial on rebuilding the
mechanical tuning gear assembly for the SX-28. This article will also have
numerous photos. I am sure many who have a SX-28 in need of some gear drive
repairs will find this detailed, step by step, guide very helpful.

Because the HCI web site does not permit downloading of articles, you may obtain
a hardcopy by writing to me directly. The only cost is printing/postage.

If any of you have an article to contribute, tips and/or techniques, product
review (preferably written by yourself) or other material about Hallicrafters,
or other vintage gear that may also be applicable to Hallicrafters, we welcome
them. Please contact the HCI Web Master, Fred Mooney, KA1DGL at:

We greatly appreciate all the contributions, as there are many very talented
people out there with priceless information to share.

Thanks for participating and for contributing. It is all of you who have made
HCI the glowing success that it has become over the years.
