Hi "boatanchorites".
Gee, this seems to be my lucky time of year. Awhile back an operational
Viking Ranger found it's way to my "shack" on "permanent loan". Said radio
is now residing on my operating table in the "Ham" position (right seat),
connected up with the Yaesu FROG-100 (solid state) receiver, primarily for
CW ops.
Now, I just received word a few minutes ago that the same gentleman who
brought the Ranger over is bringing me his Hammarlund HQ-110 hamband
receiver on the same arrangement (permanent loan). He is "downsizing" his
ham station and moving his computer in. He spends a LOT of time writing and
wanted to put it all in the same room (this man once had probably half a
dozen operating stations set up in a room probably 10x10). ALL but one were
Boatanchors, like several Heathkits, the Ranger, KWM2/30L1 etc. The only SS
rigs was a Kenwood TS-450, TS-50 (his mobile) and a Heathkit Xceiver with
external VFO, console etc. Now about all he has left are a couple Heathkits
(the mobile twins), HW-102, TS450 & TS-50.
Anyway, now I'll have to re-arrange my station again, take the Yaesu Frog
out of the "Ham" setup and somehow fit the HQ-110 in place.
Well, it's off to bama to download the manuals on the HQ-110. Any hints on
interfacing this rig to the Ranger so I can monitor my CW in the receiver
with th4e Dow coax relay? Yes, I think I will be able to set it up for a
"monitoring function with the muting line from the Dow relay.
Anyone on this list ever used a HQ-110 on CW? How are they (I've always
like Hammarlund receivers, had a number of them).
73 from the "Beaconeers Lair".
