Spray cans of St. James gray are available from Total
Electronics in North Carolina. Don't have the E-Mail
address handy right now, but do a "google" search and
you will get to their web site.
I have been buying mine in quart quantities mixed by
Sherwin-Williams. However, I do have a paint gun.
The quarts of latex enamel run about $10 a quart and
the acrylic paint (harder but still water clean up)
run about $11 a quart. I do have the formula for the
St. James gray in the quart size. The paint that I
have been using is the "satin" finish and what they
mixed for me was a "perfect" match for the St. James
gray on one of my 75A2 receivers.
There does seem to be a slight difference in the "hue"
of the St. James gray among various Collins units
including those of the same model. Don't know if this
is due to aging or just the "run of the mill"
differences in "batches".
Some Sherwin-Williams stores do have the machinery to
put their paint into spray cans. Of course this adds
to the cost. But, Total Electronics runs about $10
for a spray can plus about $4 shipping for one can
(about $2 for each additional if I remember
correctly).
I was using paint from Total Electronics for equipment
that I was repainting for others until he stopped
shipments for several months. Then I acquired a
Wagner airless paint gun (rebuilt at a VERY good price
on sale at Northern Supply). Paid for the gun with
the first quart of paint which was equal to four spray
cans!
