I actually did some checking, turned around and checked a detail or two
in my engineering school books to get the quotes.
My electrical engineering studies started in the early sixties when this
stuff was still taught as part of engineering education.
The class before me had no solid state at all. I started in 1963. The
second class after me had no tubes at all. I had about fifty fifty,
with other later efforts being all solid state.
Now the irony, I am a power engineer in the electric utility business
and have never used any of the stuff from school in a job, just hobbies.
I had only the two minimum power classes when in school. I learned it
all in the trenches.
And just for good measure I am also an ex rock and roll and also
classics DJ from the mid sixties.
