Any source of lead works fine.  Most other metal isn't
really heavy enough to add weight although it will
help some.  The thing about using either lead balls or
shotgun pellets is that they are very easy to work
with.  Also, getting actual lead isn't as easy as it
was a few years ago due to federal regulations
concerning its use.

You can even use solder that you have collected from
your desoldering tool!  I had a technician who worked
for me years ago who kept emptying all of the
desoldering bulbs in the shop for several weeks.  He
had obtained a large solder pot and was getting enough
metal to fill it up!
