Hi Mike,

I'm replying so everybody can get this info. What you have there is
a LATE 180A. The
serial number tag on the back is an adhesive tag that's stuck to the
chassis on the left side.
That's one of the changes that occurred when Gianinni Scientific bought
Hammarlund.
You'll find the same kind of tag on late 170A's and the S/N's are different.
I've forgotten the exact year but I believe that it was in 67 or
68. Robert Fowle had some info
about the serial numbers that Gianinni issued but I never got a copy. So,
if you want a closer
approximation on the date, take the cover off the radio, and look at the
3035 oscillator crystal
that's in the corner of the chassis that's underneath the vernier tuning
control. It's mounted with it's leads up
and you'll find a manufacture date in month and year in red on the bottom
of the crystal. You
can figure that the manufacture date is 2 to 4 months later than the
crystal date. Your serial number is
higher that mine here and I seem to remember figuring that my receiver was
manufactured in
1971. I believe that both the 170A ane 180A were produced until 74 or 75.
I believe that Charlie Jedlicka may have gotten those S/N records from
Robert when he
got rid of a lot of parts and paperwork. It was one of those things that
was to get posted to the
Hammarlund webpage, but never made it that far. Hope this helps.

Thanks!!
