Today in the regular mail I received a wonderful note from a gentleman in the
UK. He knows who he is and I will not embarrass him by naming him here. Just
about the time I ask myself why I manage a dozen mail lists, run three Nets, own
the HCI web site, update said web site daily and weekly and so forth and so on
... All for free, naturally, and think that maybe I need to have the pair of
tracks running between my ears buffed to remove corrosion that might be
impairing my thinking processes, a letter like this one shows up.
While it is always nice to know that people appreciate what I do, which can be
said for any of us, it is indeed gratifying to receive a positive note from a
stranger thanking me for managing a list that has meant so much to him. He was
very much aware of the outstanding subscribers on this list who have almost
without fail provided him with the assistance he needed. While every barrel has
a few rotten apples, hey the worms have to eat too!, the vast majority of
subscribers are prime examples of the better side of human nature.
The purpose of this list, and for that matter all the qth.net lists, is to
provide a subscriber base to provide assistance to like brethern with a similar
interest . I have managed this list just over five years now and I have always
been impressed by the incredible treasure trove of information that resides
here. Ask and ye shall receive. Just be careful what you ask for! (grin)
Thanks to the gentleman in the UK for the wonderful letter and thanks to all of
you for making the Boat Anchor list such a repository of information.
Most importantly, thanks to Al Waller, K3TKJ who makes these lists possible.
They do not run on ether, so if you can spare a few dollars, by all means send
them to Al to help keep the boat anchor lights lit and the hard drives turning.
We all take too much in life as granted, that is, until in the blink of a
microcosm, it all goes away. Help Al keep helping us help ourselves -
