I totally agree. One of the best gifts my wife has purchased for me. I had no
idea how much use you can get from one of these. I always apply a satin spray
coat over them but it is not necessary as long as the surface has been
properly prepared. The variety of colors and backgrounds makes it true ham
utility.

I really think there is a better way. Get a Brother "P-Touch" or similar
label maker. Use black on clear or white on clear tape. Select the letter
size you want and then print the tag. Use a pair of scissors to trim the
excess tape so that only the letters are outlined. It works great on smooth
finishes. The tape is almost undetectable. I'm not sure how well it will
work on wrinkle finishes.
