Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions for someone to restore a
Hammarlund HQ-100 receiver. I'm fairly new to boatanchors as a hobby and
I'd try it myself, but I'm just now up to working on old AM/FM table
radios for practice and learning, plus I don't have all the necessary
test equipment.yet. Also, this radio has some sentimental value; it was
my grandfather's only purchased piece of equipment. He was an avid ham
and home-brewed all of his other equipment. The radio has been stored
for over 15 years but worked quite well before it was put into storage.
I sent it out to a person that thought they could do the work, however
they were unable to completely get it up to par. The radio works, but
has very poor sensitivity and this person cannot find the reason. I have
to mention that this person refused to take any payment from me even
though he did replace quite a few parts. His reasoning is he couldn't
fix it right, so he feels he is owed no payment (Hams are the nicest
people, ain't they?). I'm sending him some payment for his trouble
anyway. I'm looking for functional repairs only on this unit; I can take
care of the cosmetics myself. My intention is to return this old gal to
daily use. I used this radio a lot as a kid and none of my newer
solid-state equipment has quite the sound and warmth that the old
Hammarlund had. Any suggestions that can point me toward someone willing
to take the job on would be greatly appreciated. I'm in no hurry and
even though I have a limited budget, I am willing to pay for quality
work.
