All vintage gear of all flavors are always welcome -
Boy have I got one for the Hallicrafters At The Movies showcase! (If your wife
or daughter who can read is in the room and can see the CRT, read this later!).
A friend of mine in CA sent me an 8X10 full color glossy of Pamela Anderson
wearing nothing but a well practiced smile holding a CRX-101. Naturally
positioned so as to obscure certain anatomical areas. But you can only hide just
so much with a hand held and a telescoping antenna! Whew! If Northrup had used
an ad like this they would still be selling Hallicrafters instead of airplane
parts to the government. I tried to upload the photo to the HCI web site, but my
modem did a melt down! So you will just have to send me $10 per copy, and
include a plain brown envelope too!
Yea, I know, why believe a totally blind man when it comes to describing a
photo. Remember the old 'Yellow Pages' ad: "Let your fingers do the walking"? I
have a modified Pioneer fifty inch TV with tactile cell display overlay. I can
literally 'feel' the outline of the image being projected on the screen. And
somebody said that Talking Books were the best thing for the blind since some
marketing moron put Braille letters in Alphabet Soup!
Anyhow, the doctors say I am harmless as long as I take my medication and stay
away from anything solid state. Does that mean I am on a liquid diet, I wonder?
Who cares. Join me on Saturday December 4th for the HCI 40 meter Net. It will
begin with the pre-Net, the time when all vintage tube gear is permitted to
drift like a sailboat with torn sail in a 45 knot draft, at 12:30 PM EST, (1730
UTC). The Net proper will commence at 1:00 PM EST, (1800 UTC). The frequency
will be 7.280 Mhz lsb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter and the distinctive
whirring sound of the Gerbils running their little legs off on the treadmill to
turn the generator that keeps the cooling fan sitting on top of my HF amplifier
spinning.
Tomorrow's topic? No, it is not how you can get a tactile TV! But rather, the
best general coverage receiver that Hallicrafters made. Personal ownership
prejudice is permitted to influence your opinions here, so don't let the
specifications cloud your judgement. The second issue: what was the best
Hallicrafters tx and amatching rx prior to 1946?
I hope to hear more than the Ohio mob tomorrow, so Jim Z. in Iowa, get your buns
out of bed, face out of the TV and join us for a change. We have sold enough
FPM-300 belts for you to finance your retirement in the Caribbean. So all of you
start the new year out right, take your fiber therapy and join us tomorrow on
the HCI 40 meter Net. Hear you then.
