[Boatanchors] Re Insurance Coverage On Vintage Gear

One interesting point that may have escaped my review of this
thread was full replacement value coverage, which, in theory, pays
enough to buy currently available replacement items, as opposed
to paying off only the value of the actual item lost. This
coverage is usually not very expensive in comparison with the
normal home owners policy.

Now this really could be a double edged sword, tho, as in the
case of most consumer electronics, where the replacement cost has
gone down on equipment that does more than earlier equipment.
(Compare a ten year old VCR that cost $500 with what you can buy
today for much less).

On the other hand, you really want to make
sure that you are getting replacement value item. About 20 years
ago, I had a break-in and a Nikon camera and lenses were taken.
I had replacement value coverage and the insurance paid me what
a new equivalent Nikon camera was selling for at that time, and
I did buy me a new one.

An additional factor might be that high value items may have to
be scheduled items, that is, listed with the company, for
specific coverage. I would wonder, tho, how vintage equipment
would be covered.
