Hi All.
It's been awhile since I posted here. Well today I finally made a QSO on
the Ranger (original model) and the Hammarlund HQ-110 receiver. Up on 10
Meters AM with N0BD who was using a B & W 5100 and RCA Military receiver
(R320?). Lots of QSB but we chatted for awhile. I received good reports on
my audio so guess that is good news 8^) Not a LOT of antenna on the roof,
it's a Hustler 6BTV vertical over about 1200 Sq/Feet of sheetmetal roof.
I'd gone up on 10M with the rig before but the band always seemed to be
closed. It seemed to be closed today also, but I called a short CQ
(something I rarely do) and Dave came right back to me. So maybe 10M isn't
closed as often as we think ;-)
This is the Ranger that I had overhauled and which gave me so many fits with
Parasitic Oscillations on 10M etc. It had at one time been extensively
modified for 6 Meters and that is all put back "original". At least so far
as I can tell. It does have some modest audio modifications done, primarily
on the preamp circuits and power supply filtering. It and the receiver are
on permanent "loan" from a local ham friend.
73 from the "Beaconeers Lair".
