Yep, that sounds like it. I missed out on all the fun of flicking
switches back and forth. :-)
I am surprised that here is not more references to these on the web. Why
weren't they more popular, considering that they effectively gave full
QSK in a separate TX, RX situation?
RX insertion loss? Cost? Maximum power handling?

Sounds like a tube TR switch like the Johnson TR switch. While I never
used one, but have one, I believe the transmitter is left in transmit
mode all the time. The TR switch detects rf and blocks rf from getting
to the receiver and mutes it. 73, Scott WA9WFA
