Phil,
Small Parts, Inc. in Florida has both roll pins and tapered pins in sizes
like are used in the 390A and 648 rigs.

Subject: [Boatanchors] gear Pin for R-648/ARR41
Hello.
I'm working on a Collins R-648 for a man. The unit had severe gear timing
problems and unfortuantely I was NOT able to remove the pin from the main MC
gear so it could be disassembled (someone musta used a 9 pound hammer).
Anyway, today the new deck arrived from Fair radio, Gears were in pretty
good sync though some minor adjustments are needed to be made as the cam for
the veeder root counter window thingy is off as is the coupler for the Xtal
Osc. (yes, it's been apart).
My question is this. This one is MISSING the same pin that was driven so
hard into the other deck. While testing I subbed a small "nail" but it has
too much slop and sheared off after a couple turns of the gear.
WHERE does one go to get either pins that fit these critters or some good
substitute. I suspect that a good pin would have a slight taper to it.
(The one that wouldn't budge had what appeared to be a square head, well
beaten on, No amount of work trying to drive it from the other side would
do it, and in fact I broke the "skinny" part of a pin punch trying. (Yes I
tried heating and chilling it)
Flustered in Merced
