According to the "Ham Equipment Buyer's Guide" of
1972, the differences between the 65 and 65A are as
follows:

Improved metering circuit that provided for protection
of the meter movement in case of overload.

New selector switch that provided for crystal control
or external VFO.

Power socket to provide power for things like a VFO.
