Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous listing. I have had some
time to take the cover off and explore whats inside. Kinda like a R390. T=
his
particular radio has some interesting problems, like depot mods. etc. =0D
=0D
The radio is mechanically locked above 16 Mhz. I have carefully looked
over the servo gear train, and it a appears that the lock up is after the
gears, like maybe the band switch, the lock has some slop in it; unlike =
a
precision AGMA gear train would have.=0D
=0D
The other thing is the BFO is locked mid scale,it looks like the front pa=
nel
has to come off to unlock it.=0D
=0D
The other thing is that the bands from 8-15 Mhz have low sensitivity,=0D
~ 20 Db down. The really weird thing is, the 16 Mhz band has full
sensitivity. Looking at the block diagram it is difficult to figure out w=
hat
is actually happening.=0D
=0D
The low sens. doesen't really follow the conversion scheme, I wonder if t=
his
is part of the mod program. It is almost a perfect 20 Db down. =0D
=0D
One thing I did discover, it gets hot, I pulled all the tube distroyer
Nickel plated shields, the radio ran much cooler and showed no sign of
instability. I also installed all IERC shields which (may have) helped=0D
somewhat.=0D
=0D
I am certain I would eventually find out the answers, but I know there a=
re
people out there that have seen this before or are just smarter the I.=0D
It's a lot of work to pull this dude apart and then find out you were wro=
ng,
I have been there too many times. =0D
=0D
I do have a over supply of the larger IERC for 12AU7 etc. that are =0D
available for what I paid.($ 1.00 ea.) I am not particulary fond of=0D
this style. There were better ones available. =0D
=0D
I am a full time EMI/EMP/RF engineer, with limited time since 9/11=0D
I will cheerfully trade some of my 3000 odd stock of tubes and old parts
for some help. =0D
=0D
I found a great site that had the manual for free download, unfortunately=
I
am having printer problems and have to move screens around to follow the
various drawings. It would be more helpful to paste some together to get a
full thinking picture.=0D
