Here's a link for SBE:
http://www.sbelectronics.com/sbe.htm
Specifically, if you look under Products/Specs at the bottom, you can
read up on the specs for Orange Drops Polypropylene film/foil and
metallized caps. Specifically under the audio amp builders sections it
reads:
Dont settle for anything but the original! Only the Orange Drop film
capacitor gives you the
highest quality and reliability for your amp! And Antique Electronic
Supply can meet your
needs, contact them today!
Antique carries a wide range of Orange Drop products, including a
72-piece sample kit!
Below is a listing of the products they stock. Call fax, e-mail or
visit their web site for more
details. Heres how you can reach them:
Also under Links is the listing for Barker Microfarads(BMI), makers of
electrolytic caps which reads:
Like SBE, Barker is a former Sprague Electric Co.,
manufacturing aluminum electrolytic capacitors
(Barker is also a US manufacturer, you can order online with a minimum
of $25)
So it would seem that Sprague was indeed sold off in different lines,
not in one chunk to some company in India. Plenty of good reading there
for those of you looking for answers to who makes caps of the highest
quality.
Hope this helps shed some light on the truth about Orange Drops and
other high-quality American made products. While some of us may be
authorities in our specific fields, I don't think any of us has all the
answers. Only through these online forums can so many things come to
light that are not common knowledge to all.
