[Boatanchors] Kit Horror Stories / WRL Screen Modulator

I am originally from about 35 miles south of the Heath
plant in St. Joseph, Michigan (LaPorte, Indiana). A
lot of the employees at the plant were on 6 meters
back in the 1959 - 1962 time frame (I went off to
college in 1962 at Georgia Tech). They told some of
the horror stories about returned kits.

It is difficult to imagine that someone could be so
inept. But, I am one of the Moderators of QRZ.com and
the questions that come from licensed amateurs, even
the newly licensed General and Extra Class are
amazing! I actually wonder if some of them know which
end of the soldering iron gets hot! Some of the "old
timers" on the site get pretty caustic with their
responses. But, I just bite my tongue and try to help
them out. I figure if they are willing to ask such
mundane questions, that they really have no idea. At
least they are asking for help and not going off the
deep end.

I used to be a Heathkit service technician at the
company's Jericho store. Tales like these are indeed
*real* Glen! Hee hee.
