PBS is airing a show called 'Rough Science'. On episode 103 today, they were
attempting to set up communication, and one part of the problem was to build a
crude radio link.
The transmitter was a spark coil, like a buzzer with an antenna, run of a car
battery.
The receiver was a crystal set. They tried a rusty razor blade as a detector
which did not work (It did not appear to be the old, blue steel kind), but then
tried a piece of coke (NOT Cocaine, partly burnt coal) which worked.
This is new to me. Anyone hard of it before?
