Hi Mike,
The filaments of the SX-100 are not in series, they are in parallel but the
parallel wiring goes from socket to socket to socket in a daisy chain
fashion. Thus if there was a break in the filament wiring between tube
sockets all the tubes downstream would be affected. Two possiblities come
to mind, first, since the 5Y3 filiament has it's own transformer winding it
is independent of the main filament winding, if the second tube that you say
is working is the OA-2 gas tube which has no filament then it is possible
that the 6.3vac filament winding is open. Otherwise it is certainly
possible that the filament wiring may have a break in it, Hallicrafters used
solid wire and it will break fairly readily if flexed. I just put an SX-100
back into service and there were broken wires involved in getting it running
again.
If you want a free digital copy of the manual go to bama.sbc.edu and
download it. If you have problems let me know and maybe I can e-mail you a
copy.

I am waiting for a copy of the manual I ordered however, until it arrives
will someone tell me if the filaments of the tubes in a SX 100 are in
series? The 5Y3 and tube next to it are working but nothing else.
I am also waiting for a friends VTVM and scope.
