Seems to be contagious. I've seen notes from several people
who had meters open up. If you have a steady hand, you might 
check for broken wires around the movement and if you are 
wanting to rewind it and have a good set of magnifiers and a 
steady hand, I have wire available up to #40 AWG and can 
send you a length of it. If you are a neurosurgeon, you should 
have no problem.
