Thanks Meir, and all who responded.

Sounds like my old Cold-War-vintage National RBL-6 US Navy VLF receiver will work just fine powered with a 5Y3GT from the good ol' USSR.

I'll bet the radio's original operators would appreciate the irony, too! ;-)

Subject: RE: [National] Soviet Tubes

I have a number of Russian military radios which I use on the ham bands and
many spare tubes for them. The tube industry in the Soviet Union is more
mature then ours because they're still manufacturing tubes - they're more
experienced with applying modern manufacturing technologies to the "ancient"
art of tube manufacturing. In fact, I have JAN - type octal metal tubes
which are the equivalents of the 6SK7, 6K7, 6V6, etc. with manufacturing
dates of 1972. I also have Soviet-made 807's, and 813's. They perform as
well as US-made tubes and last just as long as the major brand names. I
wouldn't hesitate to use Russian tubes as substitutes.
