Have you considered getting a 1000' reel of aluminum #4 wire used for
grounding TV masts? Real cheap, and just as effective as copper for this
purpose. I also agree with a very large number of short radials compared to
a few long ones. If there are specific HF bands of interest, these work well
if approx 1/4 wavelength long.
