Something that you can try is to put a 50 ohm dummy
load from one side of a UHF "T" connector and connect
the other side to the linear.  The center connection
goes to the rig.  The dummy load should be able to
dissipate about 50 watts give or take a little.

Hallicrafters did this "trick" in both their HA-2 and
HA-6 transverters (HA-2 = 2 meters, HA-6 = 6 meters)
to drop the input power from the 10 meter exciters. 
The "low" power input was for rigs up to 20 watts
output and the "high" power input was for rigs in the
100 watt output category.  The "high" power input just
had a 50 ohm dummy load in the circuit.  Since the
transverters were designed in the days of tube type
transmitters, the apparent "mismatch" that occurs
(probably about 2:1 SWR) was just ignored.  The Ranger
definitely fits the bill as to the ability to match
all sorts of antenna impedances and loads.

The Hallicrafters transverters used a 50 watt dummy
load for rigs up to 100 watts output.  I have never
had any problems at all with my HA-2 using either one
of my Collins S-Lines or my Heath SB-Line as the
exciter.
