[Boatanchors] Plastic toothed belts - storage

Watch out for plastic bags. Some plastics will deteriorate when in contact
with a plastic bag (Polyethylene?) like Zip-Locks etc.. Also stay away from
rubber-bands for anything - they out-gas sulfur.

For the real deal we seal stuff in "Prime Pack". A prime pack bag is
metallized. The contents are wrapped or placed in acid free paper. Also
into the bag usually goes a desiccant. A vacuum is pulled and the bag heat
sealed.

I got a set of 1960 vintage military headphones last year sealed in prime
pack. The cord was rubber, the cans Bakelite, and the head band cover
canvas. It looked as good as the day it was made. The rubber was soft and
flexible and the metal shiny.

I'm not sure how close you can get to this at home. I have good luck with
putting the stuff in acid free paper (check your hobby shop), some desiccant
from the gun store, pulling a vacuum with a shop-vac, and then sealing as
best as I can. I did this with an R-390A RF deck and it held up well in the
storage building for five years before I unpacked it.
