Ken,
Since you have your GFCI socket connected to other sockets down the
line, try connecting only the GFCI to the AC line that feeds it. Don't
connect the other sockets to the "load" side of the GFCI. Then if the GFCI
trips you either have another bad GFCI (unlikely), or a problem with the
line feeding the socket. If the GFCI doesn't trip, connect the "load" line
and go to the next socket in line (providing you know which one is next).
Then try the socket again. Work your way down the line 'till you find the
bad section/socket.
